Your pre-term checklist
- Confirm the school campus, start and finish times, first travel date and days required.
- Check the exact pickup address and whether a large vehicle can stop safely nearby.
- Advise of mobility, communication, medical or supervision information relevant to travel.
- Nominate authorised handover contacts and provide current phone numbers.
- Ask how route changes, delays, absences and cancellations are reported.
- Confirm fees, funding status and any application still awaiting approval.
Understanding route information
Public services, school-contracted routes and private transport operate differently. A published timetable may use fixed stops, while another service may plan pickups around passenger locations and operational availability. Always confirm the route directly rather than relying on last term’s arrangement.
Helping a student prepare
Where appropriate, show the student a photo of the pickup point, explain who will meet them and practise the morning routine. Label essential items, keep contact details accessible and tell the provider promptly if circumstances change.
When a route is not yet confirmed
Do not assume a service or funding approval is in place. Keep the school informed, retain application records and ask the provider for written confirmation of availability and costs.
